Policy Feature What You Should Know
Policy Review
Comprehensive coverage means you are protected unless the cause of loss is specifically excluded by the policy.
For a total loss, your settlement is for the stated value of your home as listed on your policy. You are paid the actual cash value for a partial loss, but you can upgrade to replacement cost.
Included coverage
Personal liability
If a guest is injured in your home, or if you accidentally injure someone or damage property away from your home, you may be liable. Several coverage limits are available.
Personal property
Your belongings are protected for the actual cash value, but you can upgrade to replacement cost.
Other structures
We cover your shed, detached garage, and fence.
Reasonable repairs
Reasonable expenses for repairs made to prevent additional damage, like covering a roof after a storm, are reimbursed.
The Enhanced Coverage endorsement increases the standard limits for these items. It’s included in many programs.
Optional Coverage
Mechanical and electrical breakdown
Valuable and unusual coverage to your major appliances, HVAC, and electronics.
Builder’s risk
To close your loan, your lender may require coverage for the time between the purchase and when you take occupancy.
This hard-to-find coverage is available in nearly all states.

All coverages protect up to the stated policy limit. For a complete listing of coverages, exclusions, conditions, and limitations, please read your policy and talk to your agent. Program availability and coverages may vary by state.

A Breakdown Endorsement covers the sudden and accidental failure of electrical and mechanical systems, those built into the home and others purchased later, like:

  • Central heating and A/C
  • Electrical panels
  • Large appliances
  • Computers
  • Well or sump pumps
  • Electronics

These are just examples. If it’s plugged in, it’s likely covered.
The endorsement is included in some programs at no cost. In other programs, it adds just a small amount to the premium. Ask your agent for details.

Go with the specialist
“One size fits all” is just not a good idea when it comes to insurance. When a standard homeowner’s policy is a poor fit for your home or property, consider a specialty policy.

Specialty insurance gives you:

  • Broader coverage
  • Many more options
  • More discount opportunities
  • Expert claims handling
  • Possibly a lower rate
